DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend the virtual Indigenous Land Trust Sharing Circle at OLTA!  \n\n\n\nBoozhoo\, Aaniin\, Greetings\,     \n\n\n\nThe Ontario Land Trust Alliance is excited to invite you to an Indigenous Land Trust Sharing Circle— a virtual gathering to connect\, share\, and strengthen relationships within the Indigenous land trust community. This Sharing Circle will again be facilitated by Clarence Cachagee\, and builds on the knowledge exchange from last year’s session at OLTA’s Annual Gathering. We are creating a dedicated space outside the conference to continue these important conversations and deepen our connections.  \n\n\n\nOur goal is to hear directly from Indigenous land trust leaders about your experiences—successes\, challenges\, and what supports would be most valuable to advance your work. SUMMARY:Visit to Thickson's Woods
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Thickson’s Woods Nature Reserve in Whitby for an enjoyable walk through a century-old forest with towering pine trees\, and friendly chickadees\, woodpeckers and shorebirds viewable in Lake Ontario.  \n\n\n\nWith a few spots left\, we wanted to open registration up to the wider community. This event is run through the Engaging New Canadians and Diverse Communities With Nature Program (ENC). The aim of this program is to connect nature-focused groups including land trusts with new Canadians and diverse communities\, in order to foster opportunities for individuals to connect with the emotional\, mental and physical benefits of spending time in nature.  \n\n\n\nMeeting point: Thickson’s Woods\, Whitby at the Waterfront trail near the nature reserve sign and bench. \n\n\n\nRegister here\, or for more information\, email Rhea at Rhea.Noronha@olta.ca.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Understanding Treaties in Ontario to learn about the importance of treaties in Ontario and how treaties affect the work land trusts do. \n\n\n\nParticipants will gain a deeper understanding of Ontario treaties and how they have shaped the relationship between Indigenous peoples and settlers in the region. We’ll also explore how these treaties impact\, and should impact\, the work you do. \n\n\n\nThese treaties are foundational to understanding land rights\, resource use\, and the responsibilities of both parties. They are important because they recognize the sovereignty of Indigenous nations\, outline the terms of land sharing\, and continue to influence legal and political frameworks in Ontario today. \n\n\n\nUnderstanding and honouring treaties is crucial to advancing reconciliation\, respecting Indigenous rights\, and fostering just and equitable relations in the province. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an engaging discussion on Wise Practices to Gather and Apply Indigenous Knowledge.  \n\n\n\nIn this session\, facilitators Kerry-Ann Charles\, of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation\, and Tiffany Taylor\, of Curve Lake First Nation\, from Cambium Indigenous Professional Services\, will share insights on Wise Practices for applying and gathering Indigenous Knowledge.“Wise practices” refers to a set of guiding principles and approaches designed to respectfully engage with Indigenous communities to collect\, understand\, and integrate their traditional knowledge systems. Unlike the term “best practices\,” which can imply a one-size-fits-all solution\, “wise practices” recognizes the diversity and context-specific nature of Indigenous knowledge.   \n\n\n\nThese practices emphasize the importance of cultural respect\, ethical collaboration\, and the co-creation of knowledge. Key elements include building trust\, respecting cultural protocols\, and collaborating ethically. Involving Indigenous communities in decision-making and honoring their traditions ensures that the knowledge is used appropriately. These practices protect sacred knowledge\, promote mutual respect\, and lead to sustainable and equitable outcomes.
