Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust Board of Directors – Volunteer Opportunity
Matt is a GIS specialist with experience gathering and analyzing spatial data and creating maps. He has spent over six years working for a land surveying company in western Canada creating maps and performing spatial analysis for clients in the oil and gas industry. He has also worked for an environmental consulting company gathering data in the field. He is a graduate of Nipissing University and Sir Sandford Fleming College. He is very interested in the transition from paper to digital maps and developing web mapping applications. He’s always been fascinated by remote sensing and is often amazed at the amount of information that can be gathered by satellites orbiting the Earth. When Matt isn’t performing GIS wizardry, he spends a lot of his spare time outside hiking, running, cycling and playing recreational sports. He is also a big baseball fan, enjoys reading a good book and plays percussion in a community concert band in Toronto. He is also in the process of trying his hand at podcasting.
Working with OLTA:
Matt started volunteering with OLTA this summer. He is organizing OLTA’s GIS data and creating a map that displays it all! This includes land trust properties and data collected from our various programs such as species at risk records. He is also using data on natural features like wetlands, forests and streams. With Matt’s help, we will be able to share data and create high quality maps with ease. This is not an easy task and we are very thankful for all his hard work!
National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week is April 15 – April 21, 2018. It’s a week to celebrate the 13 million Canadians who volunteer their time and energy every year in a wide variety of ways. OLTA would like to say thank you to all of the volunteers across Ontario working hard to protect the land we all love. You are making a difference!
We are pleased to profile two very important OLTA volunteers during National Volunteer Week 2018 – see below.
