Climate Action Program – Hailburton Highlands Land Trust

OLTA’s Climate Action Program encourages community learning and action around climate change and helps land trusts share knowledge about the role of land conservation as a climate change adaptation strategy. In 2013, 2017, and again in 2019, the Township of Minden Hills experienced serious flooding and declared a state of emergency. Flooding and erratic weather patterns are a product of climate change. Wetlands provide a critical function in helping prevent flooding. In 2020, HHLT completed a project to address the detrimental impacts of climate change while also protecting over 1,600 hectares of wetland in the county.
