Empowering a Vibrant and Enduring Land Trust Community

Our work is guided by OLTA’s Strategic Plan (2021 – 24), which lays the foundation for where we want to be as an organization, and how we will realize our shared vision – a landscape rich with connected and protected spaces, supported by a thriving conservation community. How We Support Land Trusts

image

Policy & Government Relations

We continue to advocate for conservation-friendly legislation, collaborating with government agencies to secure funding and protections to ensure public policies support sustainable land use and the conservation of natural resources.

Building Stronger Communities

Land trusts provide essential tools and programs for safeguarding valuable natural landscapes, habitats, and cultural heritage, ensuring their preservation and protection for future generations.

Fostering Conservation

OLTA has developed climate tools and championed land trust nature-based climate solutions since 2002. We're proud to work with the national land trust community through the Alliance of Canadian Land Trusts (ACLT).

Education & Training

OLTA continues to strengthen land trust resilience educational resources and programming, featuring a digital learning platform,  allowing us to increase access and improve knowledge sharing and resiliency in our member organizations.

Annual Gathering Event

The Annual Gathering serves as an opportunity for hundreds of passionate conservation advocates, that work and volunteer to conserve natural heritage, to gather, share, learn, and celebrate our collective accomplishments.

Indigenous Conservation Partnerships

OLTA and land trust members are working together, learning from each other and from local Indigenous nations to reintegrate Indigenous ways of caring for the land, and increase access to the land for Indigenous peoples, and to support the establishment of Indigenous-led land trusts. This is an ongoing and essential part of our work.

National Land Trust Community

The Ontario Land Trust Alliance focuses its program development and delivery to a network of community-based land trusts in Ontario. OLTA values the network of provincial and national organizations that deliver land trust programs and actively partners with these organizations, including inviting them to become members of OLTA.

Across Canada, OLTA works with other land conservation partners in particular our alliance partners:

As part of our relationship with ACLT OLTA supports land trusts in the Maritimes. If you are based in the Maritimes please reach out to us at [email protected] to learn out how we can support you.

Beyond Canada’s borders, OLTA directly benefits from the work of the Land Trust Alliance and its members across the U.S.A.

OLTA is proud of what has been achieved with our partners across Ontario, Canada and North America!
