Membership in the Ontario Land Trust Alliance is open to land trust organizations working to conserve Ontario’s incredible natural and cultural heritage. It is only by working together that we will succeed in saving the land we love for future generations. Our membership year is July 1 to June 30.
There is only one voting member category – land trust member. Land trust members are registered charities actively working to secure and steward conservation lands.
All new applicants for membership will be admitted to OLTA only after a review of their membership application via a resolution of the Board of Governors. The organization must pass a board resolution adopting the Canadian Land Trust Standards and Practices as the ethical and technical guidelines for their organization’s operations and commit to making continual progress toward the implementation of these standards and practices.
An Associate must be a non-profit corporation and have in its objects the protection and conservation of natural and cultural heritage areas. This group includes conservation authorities, national land trusts and municipalities. Associate is a supporter category.
Associate charities are encouraged, but not obliged, to adopt the Canadian Land Trust Standards and Practices as the technical and ethical guidelines for their organization’s land securement and stewardship activities.
Associates may use the affiliation OLTA Associate.
This Associate category is available to organizations working towards becoming a land trust or a new land trust that has had charitable status for five years or less. Benefits are reduced rates for workshops and other training, plus access to land conservation networks.
This Associate category may use the affiliation OLTA Emerging Land Trust.
This Associate category is available to small not-for-profits who work with lands and nature and would like to benefit from connecting more closely with the land trust community, but are not a land trust. Benefits are reduced rates for workshops and other training, plus access to land conservation networks.
This Associate category may use the affiliation OLTA Land Steward.
